Correct installation of the seals is of great importance to guarantee good function and long service life.

1. Remove the old stuffing box from the stuffing box using a puller. Clean this area thoroughly.

2. Check the shaft (spindle, piston rod) for excessive wear. The clearance between the shaft and the body must be minimal to prevent the sealant from being forced through the gap. The maximum width of the gap between the shaft (spindle, piston rod) and the body must not exceed 0.03 × s (s - seal width). The maximum run-out shall not exceed 0,001 × d (d - diameter of the spindle or shaft).

3. Cut the packings perpendicularly or diagonally to the correct length (see pictures) and insert them in a ring shape, rotated 180° or 90° into the packing space.

4. Use a stuffing box cutter or place the stuffing box around a shaft or mandrel of the specified diameter.

5. Calculate the length of the packing for the ring - the length of the packing is calculated from the formula:

L = (D d) × k × ?/2
L - length of the unrolled ring; D - diameter of the packing chamber;
